Valentin Diez Cabanes graduated in Industrial Engineering, with the specialty of Materials, in October 2014 from the Technical University of Madrid.

He carried out the fifth year of that degree in the Czech Technical University in Prague, where he made his Master Thesis entitled ‘Stress fields in graphene at the J. Heyrovsky Institute of Physical Chemistry of the ASCR under the supervision of Dr. Otakar Frank.

From February 2015 to January 2018, he took part into a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action Innovative Training Network as Early Stage Researcher and enrolled as a graduate student at the University of Mons. Within that project, he made secondments in the Institut de Ciència de Materials de Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC) and APE Research in Trieste.

In December 2018 he received the PhD title of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Mons with the thesis entitled ‘Design of multi-functional opto-electronic devices based on molecular switches’ under the supervision of Prof. Jérôme Cornil and co-supervision of Prof. David Beljonne.

Nowadays, he is a post-doctoral researcher in the Laboratory for Chemistry of Novel Materials, and his research is focused on the electronic and optical processes in hybrid metal/organic semiconductors.
